The first trailer for 2017's The Mummy is out from its tomb. Hitting theatres on June 9th, the reboot of the franchise reveals Tom Cruise pitted against a 5,000-year-old-threat. Think Mission: Impossible with a supernatural twist as the Hollywood megastar steps into the world of gods and monsters.

Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilisation: The Mummy. Thought safely entombed deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella), whose destiny was unjustly taken away, is awakened in the current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

The Mummy Is the First in a Planned Monsters Universe
A big fictional film filled with fascinating characters and settings. Director Alex Kurtzman divulged details to a small group of reporters along with the trailer and some extra footage, plus Universal's inter-universe plan which Cruise pilots. The Mummy is the perfect start. And antagonist Ahmanet, one of the oldest monster villains of all-time, is played by actress Sofia Boutella.

Kurtzman attempted to make a distinction, saying that it's not just about building a universe, but rather planting seeds and integrating the original elements into a great movie. In the first teaser, Cruise brings The Mummy to life and it seems they'll be reaping what they've sown very soon.
